Doug Loft believes Gillingham have enough quality players to ensure a successful season in Sky Bet League One.
Loft, a summer signing from Port Vale, has featured in all pre-season games so far including Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Dartford, and is adamant the Gills will give Ipswich a stern test too this Saturday.
Speaking after the game he said: “It was good – we have worked hard on our shape and I think we applied it well.
“The quality always varies but you go into every game the same; you work hard to try and get a result and hopefully we’ll get a nice win against Ipswich.
“That’s going to be the hardest game that we’ve got but I’m confident in the lads we’ve got and I’m sure we will give them a good game.”
Loft went on to say he is enjoying working with Peter Taylor and said although he was happy at former club Port Vale, he felt he needed a fresh challenge in his career.
He added: “He’s one of the brightest Managers I have come across; he knows his stuff and he wants us to play Football and in training we work on a lot of things.
“I did my time at Port Vale, I did well up there and I was happy but I needed a new challenge and Peter was the one who sold it with the way he wants to play and he what he wants to achieve. I feel the same way.
“I had a good season last year and I’m sure I’ll have another one this season. I’m confident in my own ability and in the squad.
“I feel fit and I’m raring to go.”
