Jermaine McGlashan aiming to hit the ground running as he trains with Gillingham for the first time
Jermaine McGlashan says he aims to please the Gills faithful as often as possible as he looks to hit the ground running during pre-season.McGlashan, 26, signed a two year deal last month after turning down a new offer at Cheltenham, and he explained why he chose Gillingham as his next destination.
He said: “I did have a few offers and spoke to a few Managers but after meeting the gaffer he sold the club to me and I felt it was right for me considering his plans and where he wants to go with the club.
“Gillingham has a good fan base and with the gaffer being an ex-winger I feel I can improve. He wants athletic players this year and I feel I fit in to that criteria.
“I turned down the club in the past but it didn’t happen then, I’m here now and hopefully I can hit the ground running. It’s my first opportunity in League One so it’s important I get my sharpness and get a good pre-season under my belt.
“Some will say it’s a step up but I’m looking forward to terrorising full backs and I wouldn’t step up if I didn’t feel I could. I want to be one of the most effective players in the league and now I need to work hard and make sure I give myself the best chance to do that.
“I’m really quick; I’m a crowd pleaser and an exciting player. I track back, work hard for the team, like to assist some goals but like to chip in myself."
