TAYLOR ENDS INTEREST IN TRIALISTS

Peter Taylor ends interest in Josh Stanford and Liam Marrs following trials at Gillingham FC

Gills boss Peter Taylor has ended his interest in trialists Josh Stanford and Liam Marrs.

Josh spent four weeks at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and made appearances in games against Folkestone, Bromley, Welling, Dartford and Faversham – however Peter has decided to look at other areas.

He said: “Josh had a bit of a shoulder injury anyway but we have let him go. He’s a terrific lad and it was very close to us taking him on but we’ve decided not to.

“We are hoping we will stay in touch with him and help him in every way.

“He’s done very well and he’s just been a touch unlucky on timings with the types of players we need. We have enough front six players and if anything we still need more defenders than anything else rather than a left winger.

“He was a credit to take, a good lad and is welcome here any time he wants.”

As for Marrs he featured in Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Dover, and with Matt Fish set to miss Saturday’s trip to Ebbsfleet, Peter is planning to put another trialist at right back.

He added: “Liam has also gone back – I just said I’m looking at different areas, Dover was a difficult game for him and they started better than us.

“I’m looking at another area so there will probably be another trialist there Saturday.”

Gillingham FC would like to wish Josh and Liam well for their futures.
