FEBRUARY GOAL OF THE MONTH

Final chance to vote for your favourite Gillingham FC goal in the month of February

The Gills scored six times in five games during the month of February, culminating in two victories after back to back defeats towards the end of the month against Sheffield United and Oldham.

However there were some great strikes during the four week period to get the crowd going, and below are the nominees for the February `Goal of the Month` honour.

GOAL A – Bayo Akinfenwa v Port Vale (01.02.14)

The big man struck just before the half time interval with an excellent header which was guided past Chris Neal in the Vale goal.

Bradley Dack sent in a teasing corner in to the centre of the penalty area, and Akinfenwa netted his sixth goal of the league season to put the hosts in front.

GOAL B – Bayo Akinfenwa v Port Vale (01.02.14)

Akinfenwa was at it again in the second half, once more getting on the end of a fantastic Dack cross to head beyond Neal.

Michael Harriman did well to find the midfielder on the right hand side of the pitch, and from a tight angle Dack wrapped his foot around the ball and Bayo converted from close range.

GOAL C – Cody McDonald v Port Vale (01.02.14)

The Gills went 3-0 up against the Valiants courtesy of a fantastic team goal, eventually finished by the in-form McDonald.

Steven Gregory picked out Dack who played a neat 1-2 with the striker, and McDonald didn’t need a second invite as he accurately placed the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper.

Port Vale pegged the score back to 3-2, but the hosts saw out the game to earn three points.

GOAL D – Cody McDonald v Stevenage (04/02/14)

Having gone 2-0 down and seen Elliott Hewitt sent off the Gills had a lot to do to get back in the game at Broadhall Way, but Cody McDonald got on the score sheet yet again to half the deficit.

Bradley Dack once more turned provider as he produced a defence splitting pass to play in the striker who poked the ball beyond Chris Day.

GOAL E – Joe Pigott v Carlisle (08.02.14)

The on-loan Charlton Athletic striker repaid Peter Taylor’s faith in him by scoring on his first full start for the club.

McDonald broke down the left hand side, lost the ball but it founds its way to Pigott just outside the box.

The striker had an initial touch, made space for a shot and finished superbly beyond Jordan Pickford.

GOAL F – Cody McDonald v Carlisle (08.02.14)

Cody produced another deadly finish towards the end of the game when he latched on to a long ball forward, forced his defender in to a mistake and delicately chipped the oncoming keeper.

McDonald performed a `Flappy Bird` celebration as Gills ran out 2-1 winners at Brunton Park.
