LEE: POINTS MATTER MOST

Charlie Lee happy to be back in the goals after coming off the bench to seal a late 1-0 win over Crawley Town at Priestfield

1-0 win against Crawley at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.Charlie Lee said he was delighted to grab the winner on Saturday as the Gills clinched a late

Lee came off the bench to replace Craig Fagan on 81 minutes, and the midfielder took advantage of a Leon Legge header at the back post with just two minutes to go and guide the ball home for his second goal in as many games.

Charlie said it was a good atmosphere in the dressing room at full time and is hoping the Gills can use the confidence to their advantage when they take on Coventry City in their next game on Tuesday evening.

He said: “I thought in spells we did really well and when it wasn’t going for us we dug in, I came on and managed to get the winner which was good and everyone was buzzing.

“It’s we wanted; it was a good header from Leggy and the defenders didn’t expect me to shank it but obviously I tricked them!

“If I had hit it properly it wouldn’t have gone in – there were quite a lot of chances at both ends but it was one of those games where it was end to end.

“They applied a lot of pressure but we got the points and that’s all that matters.

“When you lose a few games you get dragged in to it a bit but Saturday was a good win. We need to beat teams around us and hopefully it’s what we keep doing.”

Charlie admitted his injuries have been frustrating for him but is now eager to make up for lost time, however he understands that competition for places is fierce.

He added: “It’s been a frustrating time because I would come back and then get injured, the gaffer has put me in during the last couple of games and I’ve picked up a couple of goals.

“I won’t go knocking on his door, when he is ready to put me in he will put me in and, as always, I will give 100%.”
