TAYLOR: PLAYERS DESERVE CREDIT

Peter Taylor heaps praise on his players after persistence results in a late 1-0 win over Crawley in Sky Bet League One

Peter Taylor said he was absolutely delighted to take all three points in a 1-0 win over Crawley at MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.

Charlie Lee struck late on to register his second goal in as many games which enabled the hosts to secure their first win since beating Carlisle on February 8.

The Gills boss conceded the performance may not have the best, but praised his players for the way they kept going.

Speaking after the game he said: “I’m absolutely delighted with three points, a very important three points.

“The performance was nowhere near what we want, a nervous performance but for effort and the way they kept going I couldn’t ask for any more.

“The spirit of the boys was magnificent and as much as we know we can do a lot better I still say their keeper made more saves than Nels.

“They put us under pressure with some good play but their finishing has probably disappointed John because they didn’t hit the target, but we also had a couple of good chances.

“The situation that we are in there will be games like that and one thing that any manager can ask from his players is to keep going and not drop your heads.

“That’s what we done and that’s why the players deserve so much credit.”
