Peter Taylor announces that Bayo Akinfenwa will not be extending his stay at Priestfield
Gills boss Peter Taylor has revealed that striker Bayo Akinfenwa will not be staying at the club for the 2014/15 season.The forward, along with Chris Whelpdale, was offered a new contract to stay at MEMS Priestfield Stadium last week, however the two parties have been unable to agree terms.
Speaking to the club's official website Peter said: "Sadly we have been unable to agree terms on a new deal and so Bayo will be leaving the club.
"I have the utmost respect for Bayo; he has been a superb ambassador for Gillingham and scored some very important goals for us last season.
"He has been a model professional, a great character to have around the place and I have very much enjoyed working with him."
Akinfenwa departs Priestfield having made 37 appearances for Gillingham in his second spell, scoring 10 goals.
The last of which coming against Rotherham in a 4-3 defeat at Priestfield in early April.
Gillingham FC would like to thank Bayo for his efforts and we wish him well for the future.
