Carl Muggleton and John Schofield leave coaching roles at Gillingham Football Club

Gillingham FC can confirm that Carl Muggleton and John Schofield have left their roles as Goalkeeping Coach and Assistant Manager respectively.

Carl and John arrived at the club in July 2012 following the appointment of Martin Allen, and played an integral role in helping the club win the League Two title in their first season.

The Manager revealed it was a difficult decision but thanked the duo for their hard work and commitment.

Speaking to the club’s official website he said: “It’s not an easy decision and not a nice thing to do from my part, I found out I had got the job on Saturday and I know the route I want to go.

“It has nothing to do with John and Carl’s work as they have been absolutely excellent since I have been here.

"They’ve been first class in everything they have done, their work is very good but it’s just that I wanted to maybe get more people who are bit more local rather than where John and Carl are from.

“I really do hope they go and get work very quickly and I’m sure they will because they are very good at what they do and I thank them for their honest efforts here.

“They have done a great job, they stuck at it when Martin left and of course he was the one who appointed them.

“They were first class in everything they did and very good so we will miss them in lots of ways but it is the decision which I have made.”

The club would like to place on record its gratitude and thanks to both Carl and John, and we wish them well for the future.
