Michael Doughty delivers his first interview since joining Gillingham on a one month loan deal from Premier League side Queens Park Rangers
Gills new signing Michael Doughty said he jumped at the opportunity to join the club once he became aware of a possible move.
The 21-year-old midfielder signed for Gillingham on Friday morning on a one month loan deal from Premier League side QPR, and said the backroom staff along with the players made him feel welcome very quickly.
Speaking to the club’s official website he said: “The stadium is great, I had a chat with the Manager who has a fantastic pedigree in the game – I had the first conversation with my agent last Wednesday night and Gillingham were keen to make something happen.
“I trained with QPR Thursday and was then told everything had been agreed and I jumped at the opportunity to play first team Football, especially with the Manager here and the set of lads.
“Everyone has been very welcoming and made me feel right at home, the lads have introduced themselves and it’s a great setup.
“From that stand point there is no qualms, all the boys seem very focused.
“I’ve played with Josh Pritchard and Aaron Morris in the Wales setup and I knew Antonio from his time at QPR so I know a couple.”
Michael has enjoyed loan spells at other clubs before, but having spent a season with Stevenage last year he feels he has learned a lot about League One Football.
He added: “A lot of my preliminary loan spells were when I was very young and probably still developing, but now I’m 21 and have played a lot of first team football so I do feel this is a prime time in my career development to go forward.
“Last year was a really good education as to what League One Football was all about which as a young player you need to learn and I think I’ve added a lot more to my game.”
