Mark Patterson's development squad preparing to take on Cardiff City in the next qualifying phase of the U21 Premier League Cup
Gillingham's development squad will be in action this evening when they take on Cardiff City in the next round of the Premier League U21 Cup.Mark Patterson's squad will travel to the Cardiff City Stadium having defeated Plymouth Argyle 1-0 at MEMS Priestfield Stadium in the previous qualifying round last month.
Cardiff will present a stern test, however the experience of playing at the club's main stadium is something Patto believes his team should be looking forward to.
He said: "Following a victory in the last round against Plymouth the boys have been rewarded with a fantastic draw against a strong Cardiff team.
"It's an opportunity for the lads to express themselves on a fantastic stage and we are very much looking forward to the challenge."
The one-off fixtures in the competition will be played on a regional basis until the Round of 16, whereupon the draw becomes national. The final will be played over two legs home and away at the main stadia of both teams.
Regional qualifiers will be held to progress to the round of 32, at which stage Category 1 academies will enter the competition.
