TAYLOR: I'M DELIGHTED WITH THE PERFORMANCE

Peter Taylor delivers his immediate reaction to the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Coventry on their return to the Ricoh Arena

Peter Taylor said he couldn’t fault the performance of his players despite losing 1-0 to Coventry City on their return to the Ricoh Arena on Friday evening.

An early first half goal from former Gills striker Frank Nouble proved the difference between the sides, and despite a number of chances to try and force an equalizer, the goal eluded Gillingham and they walked away having suffered their third away league defeat of the season.

Speaking after the game Peter said: “I think we should have scored in the first minute with a really good move – Coventry are an excellent footballing team, they score a goal but I thought we carried on.

“We didn’t do so well at the end of the first half but in the second half we showed good character and some good quality and I still can’t believe we didn’t score the goal.”

Taylor was asked if he feared the worst following Coventry's early opener. He replied:

“Yes because of the atmosphere and Coventry were absolutely flying with their passing moves at times, they were sucking us in and playing in their wing backs which was good play.

“Sometimes you do fear the worst but you just want your players to stick at it. We’ve lost the game but I’m absolutely delighted with our performance and if we do that more times than not then we’ll be fine.”
