HOUGHTON: WE NEED TO KEEP OUR FEET ON THE GROUND

On loan Chelsea midfielder impressed with Gills start

Jordan Houghton believes the Gills squad need to keep their feet firmly on the ground despite a positive start to the new season.

Justin Edinburgh’s side are unbeaten in all competitions going into tomorrow’s match against Birmingham in the Capital One Cup, but the on loan Chelsea midfielder says the players must remain focused.

Speaking after Saturday’s win against Wigan he said:

“It was a good team performance, I was happy with my own aswell and up against a hard side I thought we made them look mediocre to be honest.

“We got stronger as the game went on and didn’t give them many chances.

“It’s a young side, we need to keep our feet on the ground but the gaffer is certainly doing that.”

Gillingham are top of Sky Bet League One after four games, and although Jordan said it’s pleasing to be there, he said it will be a while before the table takes shape.

He said: “You wouldn’t be playing Football if you didn’t want to be a winner, we are top of the table but you can’t get carried away.

“We are only a few games into the season so you don’t really know who are going to be contenders to go up. Once you start to get past Christmas you then start looking at how other teams are doing.”
