The club's half time shootout competition will return for the new league season
Gillingham Football Club’s popular Half-Time Shootout competition returns for the start of the 2015-16 season. The GFC Community Trust are again running the tournament for 16 lucky schools in Kent. All will be hoping to progress to the Final of the competition which takes place during our last home game of the season against Millwall in May 2016.
The schools taking part in the tournament for this coming season will compete against each other in a knock out style competition at half time during selected home matches.
Each player participating will also receive a ticket to watch the first team live in action and will all be eager to be crowned Half-Time-Shoot-Out champions at the end of the season.
On the day the school teams line up just outside the goalkeepers area and have seven seconds to successfully score a goal either by dribbling the ball or by simply striking the ball from the edge of the area.
Last season’s competition saw Featherby Junior School score from the spot week in week out on their way to the final where they beat The Academy Of Woodlands when the Gills played Notts County in the final game of last season.
It was a very exciting encounter where some fantastic penalties were scored.
Both teams were awarded medals and a trophy and posed for pictures with Gills very own Luke Norris, Jake Hessenthaler and The GFC Gems.
Places in this season’s competition were offered to schools that work with the Trust during the academic year and spaces filled up, as always in record time.
New signings Ryan Jackson and Rory Donnelly this week revealed the fixtures for the schools participating this year with reigning champions Featherby Junior School facing last year’s runners up, The Academy Of Woodlands, in the opening round on the 12th September when the Gills face Blackpool FC.

Good luck to all schools taking part and we hope you will help #RoarUsOn!
