Gillingham FC wishes our Girls COE U17s the best of luck in their clash against Aston Villa.
Good luck to our Girls COE U17 squad who take on Aston Villa tomorrow in the Semi-Finals of The FA Girls’ U17s Centres of Excellence Youth Cup.It’s another first for us as the clubs face each other for the first time in Girls Centre football and I know everyone connected to Gillingham FC is excited to host such a famous and prestigious club.
Villa started their cup campaign with an away win against Lincoln, progressing on penalties. They then went on to beat North Yorkshire 1-0 before seeing off Blackburn in the quarter-finals, winning 3-2 away from home.
Last week was one of the most exciting, nerve-wracking, tense but ultimately enjoyable experiences of manager Pete Sayers' coaching career and the girls all played their part in a famous win over the reigning Youth Cup champions Liverpool.
It is so rewarding to witness all the hard work that the players have been putting in pay off and all credit goes to their attitude and commitment.
But of course that’s not where we want it to end and Saturday's game has given the squad the chance to test themselves again and reach further than perhaps the most optimistic of us would have dreamed at the start of the season.
The girls have earned their chance and I’m sure they’ll be buzzing for the game.
I know you will all join us in wishing the girls the best of luck.
Up the Gills!
