GILLS CAPTURE STRIKER ON LOAN

Justin Edinburgh has added to his squad with the loan capture of Reading forward Dominic Samuel

Gillingham have bolstered their attacking options ahead of Saturday’s game against Bury with the loan signing of Dominic Samuel from Reading.

The 21-year old striker has signed an initial 28-day emergency loan deal at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s fixture against the Shakers.

Samuel came through the youth ranks at the Madejski Stadium and has made four first team appearances for the Championship club, his debut coming as a 72nd minute substitute in a 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on December 11, 2012.

During his career he has enjoyed three other loan spells at Colchester, Dagenham & Redbridge and Coventry respectively.

His most prolific spell was at the Ricoh Arena where he scored six goals in 13 appearances during the 2014/15 season, scoring twice at Bramall Lane in a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United.

He has played twice for Reading this season, most recently in the 1-0 win over Colchester in the Capital One Cup in August.

Manager Justin Edinburgh said: “We are delighted to have captured Dominic’s signature, he had a massive impact at Coventry last year in this division with six goals in 13 games.

“With Luke’s injury we have been a little bit short in that area but it gives us another option and a bit of a spark at the right time.”

Samuel has also represented the England U19 squad on three occasions, scoring twice.
