EDINBURGH ON LEYTON ORIENT

The Gills manager reflects on Saturday's game at the Matchroom Stadium

defeat to Leyton Orient, a game that was abandoned after 83 minutes following a serious injury to summer signing Lee Martin.Saturday’s 2-0 pre-season friendlyGillingham manager Justin Edinburgh spoke to the press following

Edinburgh on…Lee Martin’s injury: “It’s not good news. From the physio's assessment of it, it looks like a broken or dislocated ankle. It’s a bad injury, but it’s been put back in place now and he’s in the ambulance and is going off to the hospital.

“Our thoughts are with Lee, I know that his mum and dad were here today watching. We hope that he makes a quick recovery.”

Edinburgh on…the game: “I thought we made a really good start, we had plenty of possession, created a lot of chances, got in good areas. We just didn’t have that real belief that we’re going to dispatch our chances. Pre-season or not, when you have that amount of possession and play for longer periods in the opposition half, then you have to capitalise. They have a half chance, it’s scuffed, and goes in the bottom corner. We chased the game after that, but the second half never got going for either side.

“There were good signs, we got forward well. We created good chances and we should have looked to dispatching one or two of them.”

Edinburgh on…Luke Norris's absence from today's squad: “There’s been an enquiry from another club regarding him, and we’ve allowed Luke to speak to them.”
