OLDAKER WINS NOVEMBER GOAL OF THE MONTH

The midfielder’s goal against West Brom was voted the best by Gills fans

Academy graduate Darren Oldaker’s goal against West Bromwich Albion in the Checkatrade Trophy has been voted as the November Goal of the Month by Gillingham supporters.

November saw some spectacular goals for the Gills, but the 17-year-old’s 25-yard effort took the monthly prize, just ahead of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’s last-gasp winner against Northampton Town.

Oldaker’s goal against Albion was his second in senior football, with his first coming against Luton Town at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium, also in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Gills manager Justin Edinburgh praised Oldaker for his performance in the centre of the park at The Hawthorns on November 8.

“It was a fantastic finish,” said Edinburgh. “I thought he was absolutely outstanding in the first half. He dictated play, his use of ball was excellent and he showed tenacity when he was off the ball. It was a well-deserved goal.”
