GILLINGHAM SIGN BILLY KNOTT

Midfielder joins on a two-year deal

Former Bradford City midfielder Billy Knott has today become Gillingham's second signing ahead of the 2016/17 EFL season, joining the club on a two-year deal.

The arrival of Knott, a member of the Chelsea Academy as a teenager, at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium comes one day after fellow midfielder Mark Byrne joined the Gills.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” said the 23-year-old. “It’s been a long time coming, me working with Justin – I went to soccer schools with him when I was six years old. I needed a manager who trusts me, knows what I’m about and somebody who can get the best out of me.

“I can score goals, I like to get forward and get in the box, I’m going to work hard and really enjoy my time here.”

The Essex-born winger made his professional debut for Sunderland, whom he joined in 2010, in a Premier League game against Tottenham in May 2013.

Following loan spells at AFC Wimbledon, Woking, Wycombe Wanderers and Port Vale, he joined the Bantams upon his release from the Stadium of Light in May 2014.

Knott made 79 appearances in two seasons for the Yorkshire club, scoring eight times, including a memorable half-volley in City's League Cup victory over rivals Leeds United in August 2014.
