GILLS ACADEMY IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS

Academy squad in action at the Cayman Airways International Youth Cup

Gills Schoolboy Development Manager, Bryan Bull, looks back at the Gills Academy's first few days in the Caribbean.

Following an 18-hour long trip on Sunday the Gillingham Academy side touched down in the beautiful Caribbean Cayman Island.

A hectic schedule began with a game that eventually kicked off on Monday at 3am UK time, so the boys body clocks were a little awry.

Unsurprisingly, given the time of day and the previous days journey, the group of 13 and 14-years-olds wilted in the second-half and ended up losing 2-0 against Jamaican opponents Cavalier FC.

Following a night's rest on Tuesday, saw an improved performance in the 90 degree temperatures, and a 2-1 win against local side Academy FC thanks to excellent goals from Harry Laing and Toby Bancroft scoring having conceded inside four minutes.

The team now has a rest day on Wednesday, before potentially three games in three days to follow.
