Former Gillingham player Don Rossiter has died, aged 80
Former Gillingham player and mayor of Rochester Don Rossiter died last month, aged 80.
Strood-born Rossiter started his career on the books at Arsenal, but failed to make a single first-team appearance for the North London club.
The defender joined the Gills from Dartford in time for the 1957-1958 season, and made his debut in the opening league game, a 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.
It was his sole appearance for the club, as he signed for non-league Dover weeks later.
Arguably Rossiter’s biggest claim to fame is that he spent a year as mayor of Rochester between 1985 and 1986.
He passed away in Somerset on February 18th. Gillingham Football Club would like to express their condolences to Rossiter's family and friends.
