GIRLS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
This week the Girls Centre of Excellence held their End of Season Celebrations at the first team training ground at Beechings Cross in Gillingham. After fun on the pitch it was down to the serious job of presenting the awards and announcing who the Players Player of the Year was for each squad.
All the girls had voted for whom they thought had made a significant contribution to their squad throughout the season and deserved to be recognised for their efforts, the winners were;
U17s – Mia Hyland
U15s – Mienna Ginman Raby
U13s – Phoebe Wilkinson
U11s – Cally Evans
U9s – Tilly Corteen-Coleman.
It’s been another great season at the Centre and as always it’s fantastic to see the improvement and development of the girls. Thank you to all the players, parents and the staff for their on-going efforts, hard work and commitment that they’ve show throughout the season and for making the Centre such a success on and off the pitch, it couldn’t be done without you and the Club and Trust can’t thank you enough.
It’s also a very sad time as the Centre says goodbye to the U17s, some of whom have been with the Centre a number of years, they’ve been a brilliant group and have become not just very strong players but also amazing role models and we are very proud of them all. A number of them will still be involved in the Girls Academy and or Gillingham Ladies and we look forward to seeing them all continue their journey in the adult game.
U17s keeper, Katie Startup and her England teammates got off to a great start at the Women U17 UEFA Finals in Belarus with a 3-2 win over Norway. It was a nail biting encounter for the spectators who saw England take a two goal lead, only for Norway to level it up with two goals in the space of four minutes in the second half, England dug in deep though and scored a late winner to secure top spot in the group after game one. Up next England face hosts Belarus tomorrow in Minsk, KO 4:30pm FET, good luck girls.
