Vote for your September Goal of the Month
The Gills scored a total of eight goals in September, including three in the thrilling encounter at Chesterfield, where they came from 3-1 down to draw with the Spireites in the last minute of injury time. This month’s shortlist includes superb set-pieces, last minute strikes and great build-up play.
Here are this month’s nominees:
#GILLSGOTM1: Last season’s top scorer and player of the season Bradley Dack opened his account for the season in front of the Sky Sports cameras with a curling free-kick against Sheffield United at the start of the month.
#GILLSGOTM2: Cody McDonald scored his first goal of the Sky Bet League one season against high-flying Bradford. The striker took a magnificent touch, leaving two defenders for dead, before firing into the top corner.
#GILLSGOTM3: It’s fair to say that Josh Wright’s goal was no screamer, in fact, he couldn’t miss from one yard away, but it is for the great build-up play that the goal is shortlisted. Dack’s clever short corner was picked up by McDonald on the edge of the box, who struck low across goal to put the ball on a plate for Wright.
#GILLSGOTM4: Billy Knott showed great composure to score his first goal for the club. The midfielder was played in by McDonald, and slotted past the keeper and the back-tracking defender to seal the three points for the Gills against Coventry.
#GILLSGOTM5: In the dying embers of the game against Chesterfield, the Gills looked to be going back to Kent with zero points, until Scott Wagstaff’s rebound from Dack’s shot earned the Gills a point in the final seconds of injury time.
