HALF-TIME SHOOT OUT FINAL ANNOUNCED

The Academy of Woodlands will take on Davington Primary School in a nail-biting final on April 22!

Our Gills Half-time Shoot Out is now down to the final two schools!  Who will lift the trophy during the Gills game against Fleetwood on Saturday, April 22?

The Half-time Shoot Out competition has been running during match-days throughout the 2016/17 season.  We started with sixteen local schools from across Kent, and now, after two thrilling semi-finals, we’re down to the final two – TheAcademy of Woodlands and Davington Primary School!

Gillingham-based The Academy of Woodlands faced tough competition in their semi-final, taking on reigning champions Featherby Junior School.  Both schools put on a strong performance, but some great saves by The Academy of Woodlands’ goalkeeper kept Featherby at bay, and put the school straight into the final.

Davington Primary School from Faversham won their semi-final in a close contest against Cecil Road Primary School.  Both teams were determined to win, and the contest ended up in sudden death, with the keepers having to take the decisive penalties to decide who would progress to the final.

Gills Community Trust’s Participation Development Officer Jack Knighton said of this year’s tournament: “It’s been another fantastic season for our Half-time Shoot Out competition; we’ve seen lots of great goals and super saves from the teams involved. We’ve also been really impressed with the sportsmanship and professionalism of all of the teams have shown – each group has certainly done their school proud!

“We’re now down to the final two teams – The Academy of Woodlands and Davington Primary School – and it’s exciting to have an all-new set of finalists since last year. Both teams have done really well to get to this point; the final is a big occasion for both teams, but we just hope that they enjoy the experience – it will definitely be a moment to remember for the young players!

“We hope Gills fans will join us in cheering on both teams during the Fleetwood game, as we find out who our Half-time Shoot Out 2017 Champions will be!”

Thank you to all of the schools who have taken part in our Half-time Shoot Out competition this season, and good luck to our two finalists!
