LIST: “I’M CONFIDENT IN MY ABILITY”

Winger Elliott List is enjoying life under the Gills’ new management team

Elliott List is hoping to build on his performance in his first league start for the Gills in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Oldham and show supporters what he is capable of.

Gills head coach Ady Pennock spoke of the importance of wingers in his first press conference at the club last week, and was impressed with List’s display at the Sportsdirect.com Park on Saturday.

The 19-year-old made a couple of mazy runs down the right-wing against the Latics, before being substituted for Rory Donnelly in the 68th minute.

List on…his first league start: “I just wanted to show the fans what I can do, [to] try and be positive and create something for the team.

“That’s my game, I try and create chances. I still think I can bring more. It [Saturday] wasn’t the best performance I have had, and it wasn’t the worst, but you can always do better, no matter who you are.”

List on…his personal game: “I’ve been practicing one-on-ones with [first-team coach] Steve Lovell, who has been helping me. I’ve been getting at the full-back and trying to get crosses in, while trying to get a lot of the ball.

“I am confident in my ability. I know what I can do. I just have to show everyone else that I am doing the right things; getting balls into the box and scoring goals for the team.”

List on… the new management: “Everyone wants to get behind him [Pennock] and get results for him. We’re devastated we didn’t get the result [on Saturday], but we have to go to Sheffield United and bounce back.”

List on…drawing fouls from the opposition: “I’ve always had that from a young age. I’m always going to get fouled as I am quick, but I don’t mind as long as we get free-kicks in good areas, it’s a positive.
