EAVES: "WE GAVE ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING"

Gills number nine delivers his verdict as the club register their first league win of the season.

Tom Eaves said the Gillingham players could not have tried any harder as they sealed their first league victory of the season on Saturday against Charlton.

The striker clinched his fourth goal of the campaign on 54 minutes with the Addicks unable to get back on level terms with the Gills holding out for a 1-0 win at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

Following the game Eaves said how pleasing it was to finally get maximum points.

He said: “I’m delighted, I can’t lie. It’s very uplifting, we’ve got a tough game next week and we’ll be looking to get a result from that but the morale in the changing room is better than ever.

“We needed the three points, I think everybody felt that and it means a lot to all of us. We couldn’t have put more into it, we gave absolutely everything and the whole team is delighted.

“Once you hear the fans getting behind you and have a wave of attack it gives you another gear. We were solid at the back, we were like a wall and the big man [Holy] was unplayable, he was absolutely outstanding.”

“I’m over the moon.”
