Touch technique session takes the Marsh Academy to the local beach!
Gillingham Football Club’s Marsh Academy were put through their paces earlier this week when the squad were required to perform a run along the beach as part of their touch technique session.
The academy, run by coach Barry Cooper in New Romney, have had a brilliant season and are unbeaten during the campaign and are now just two points behind the league leaders with a few games left to play.
Their latest training session surprised some of the players, but Cooper said it was a worthwhile experience.
He said: “The boys have been excellent this season, they have played for each other, worked hard and have got their rewards. We decided to mix up their training a bit and I think a few of the boys were reluctant at first to run on the beach, but they soon took to the pavement when they saw the tide coming in!
“I’d like to personally congratulate the players on what they achieved so far this season; they have brilliant to work with.”
The run started at the academy building before the players took to Romney Sands beach where a 8v8 match took place. However this was abandoned…due to the tide!
