Gills out of Kent Senior Cup following defeat at the Gallagher.
Gills coach Mark Patterson said Maidstone deserved to advance to the semi-finals of the Kent Senior Cup following a 2-1 win at the Gallagher on Tuesday evening.
Jack Paxman had put the Stones 1-0 up, only for trialist Rhys Murphy to equalise just before the break. Maidstone controlled matters in the second half and won the game thanks to a deflected effort from Reece Prestedge.
Speaking after the game Mark said: “I think the better team won and I think at the end of the game nobody could complain about us being knocked out of the competition.
“I don’t think it was through a lack of effort or commitment, we just didn’t do the things we can do. Maidstone deserved their victory. We spoke about bringing the opposition out, but we didn’t do it enough and in the end it was quite comfortable at times.
“Overall it was one of those nights; we’re disappointed to be out but we just weren’t able to progress.”
