Wigan midfielder arrives at Priestfield.
Gillingham have completed their business in this January’s transfer window with the capture of highly rated Portuguese midfielder Leonardo da Silva Lopes on loan from Wigan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old, who joined Championship side Wigan from Peterborough United last summer, is Steve Lovell’s fifth signing in the last couple of days and could feature against Coventry City on Saturday.
Lopes began his youth career in his Portugal before joining the Posh in July 2014. He spent four years at London Road, making 108 appearances and scoring four goals in total.
He has featured just three times for the Latics this season, most recently against West Brom in the Emirates FA Cup on January 5.
Boss Steve Lovell said: “We are absolutely delighted to get this deal over the line; Leonardo is highly thought of at Wigan and I have been chasing the deal for quite some time.
“He has already played 100 games in the league and I’m sure he will be a terrific acquisition for us.”
