John Akinde pleased with home debut.
New Gills Striker John Akinde was impressed by his new side's “really solid” performance as they overcame Shrewsbury Town 2-0 on Wednesday evening at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
Having signed from Lincoln last Thursday, Akinde made his home debut on Wednesday night and was impressed with the display.
“I thought we were really solid. I think we dominated the game and was really happy to get the three points.
“I know the gaffer expects me to work hard for the team and to score goals obviously but we got the three points that is the main thing."
Akinde is settling into life at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and is excited about the future for himself and his Gillingham team mates.
“I’ve worked with the Gaffer and the Assistant before so it was nice to get the call and be back with them, they have been successful wherever they have been.
“Everyone has really welcomed me. The boys are really close and it has been great to be welcomed into that environment and that will help us as we progress towards the end of the season.
“I love hearing the fans sing my name as they obviously pay their money to come and watch us so it is great that they are enjoying it as well."
