Gills sign Jordan Roberts on loan

Former Championship winger joins the Gills until the end of the season.

Gillingham have completed the signing of Jordan Roberts on loan from Ipswich Town until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old winger agreed terms on Thursday morning and trained for the first time earlier today, and is available for selection ahead of the weekend's trip to Peterborough.

Roberts, who joined Ipswich from Crawley Town in the summer of 2018, played 12 games in the Championship last season and played against Gills earlier this campaign in the EFL Trophy at Portman Road, putting in a `Man of the Match` performance and scoring one of four goals as Ipswich secured a comfortable victory.

Jordan began his career in the academy at Peterborough before joining Aldershot Town in 2011. He made his debut for the Shots in February 2012 as a late second half substitute in a convincing 4-1 win over Barnet.

The winger has played five times for Town this season, with his total career appearances being 211. He has scored 29 goals.

On capturing his man, Manager Steve Evans said: “My knowledge of Jordan goes back to Crawley, when he had a stunning season.

"He played in the Championship last season, there was a change of Manager and this season he hasn't played a part. He played against us in the EFL Trophy and was outstanding and he really tested my back four.

"We have been patient and we are grateful to Ipswich Town for their help and assistance."

Full interviews with Jordan, and Manager Steve Evans, will be on iFollow in due course.
