Ethan Coleman spoke to the local media following the midweek victory over Sutton.
The season might only be three games old but Gillingham sit proudly at the top of the Sky Bet League Two table after extending their welcomingly-familiar 1-0 winning sequence.
The latest three points picked up might have been the most difficult yet as the Gills fought a tough battle against a physical Sutton side at Gander Green Lane.
Following the impressive victory Ethan Coleman said the bumps and bruises don’t seem to hurt as much when you take home maximum points.
“We have shown we can battle,” said the midfielder. “I got a whack in the face. You feel it all in the morning but you are left with a nice feeling as well.
“Sutton away is always a hard game in League Two and we dealt with it really well. They are obviously a big team and a big unit, we had to defend well and put our bodies on the line.
“That was tough for a League Two game I would say. We expected it to be a tough game and we knew it would be a battle. The Gaffer is picking the right team for the right game and it is working to perfection at the minute.”
‘1-0 to the Gillingham’ is becoming a nice little chant for the Priestfield faithful at the moment, but Coleman is keen not to get carried away.
“The league table is irrelevant,” he said. “We are just thinking about the next game, which is Crawley away on Saturday. Crawley is our main focus, we are just going game by game.
“It’s all about doing the right things and staying together as a team. The togetherness is massively important, we are a good bunch of lads and everyone is tight. It’s working well.”
