Neil Harris previews the visit of Colchester in Sky Bet League 2.
Neil Harris insists that he is not going to be fooled by the early Sky Bet League Two standings as his table toppers play host to basement side Colchester on Saturday.
Gills have won all their league games without conceding a goal whilst Colchester have lost all of theirs. Harris, however, has made it very clear that it his job to “not take his foot off the pedal” and he expects the same from his squad as they face a U’s side who he rates highly.
“I’d hate to think I have a group of players or staff that would take their foot off the gas,” he said ahead the clash. “What I have learnt about League Two is that every game is as difficult as the next.
“The league table is irrelevant if I am honest in the early stage. Anybody can beat anybody on any given day.
“In order to beat anyone in League Two, especially at this stage of the season, you need to give everything. Colchester are not a team who are going to finish bottom. They are a better side than results have shown. We need to be as good as we have been, if not even better.
“We are having a good time at the moment and we are enjoying it and we have had some really good performances. This run doesn’t go back to the start of the season, it goes back seven months now. We will just keep rolling with it and see where Saturday takes us.
“We have proven ourselves to be a very good side but I have to keep making sure I get the team selections, substitutes and formations correct.
“What I have done every game is tinkered with the setup of the team and that won’t be any different this weekend.
“All the previous games are irrelevant, we will carry the momentum, but it’s a different game and we need to make sure that our mindset is the same as it has been.
“There is pressure, because it is a game of football and I don’t want to lose, I want to win. I want us to keep riding the wave, with the fans and the owners. Every game there is pressure and I just want to win.”
