Christmas period provides a chance to shoot up the table, says Gills midfielder.
Christmas is traditionally a time to indulge: a little more food, cheesier music, lengthy sessions parked in front of the television, precious time with the relatives... and of course a large helping of football.
With the busy fixture list providing a constant stream of entertainment for fans of the game throughout the festive period, it is easy to forget that for players it means longer and busier shifts at the office.
Ethan Coleman isn't too fussed though. The midfielder sees it as the perfect time to try and negotiate the team up the Sky Bet League Two, resulting in plenty of reasons to be merry.
"We want to shoot up the table, that's the plan," said a focused Coleman ahead of Gillingham's Friday fixture with Forest Green. "We have strength and depth in the squad and have really good players and we will look to use that over the Christmas period with the amount of games we have. First we need to concentrate on Forest Green, we just want to get those three points.
"I do enjoy the Christmas period, it is always busy but you have to remain focused the whole time. When you are a footballer it is quite hard to celebrate Christmas because you have got so many big important games coming up at this time of year.
"Christmas is a completely different ball game, it is tough but that's our job and we have got to win games this time of year. I love Boxing Day fixtures and when I was younger I did the same thing. My Dad used to go to the local game nearby and it's exactly the same feeling.
"We will take it all game by game, so at the moment we are just concentrating on the Forest Green game and we are looking to win it. We need consistency at the minute, so we need to win a game and get on a little run."
