Gills forward reflects on the victory over Dartford and his transition into full-time Football.
Jayden Clarke's progression from part-time footballer to pro should be an inspiration to anyone who wants to lace up their boots and make a name for themselves in the English Football League.
The attacking-midfielder, who signed from Dulwich Hamlet in January and also spent time in the Tottenham Academy in his youth, offered one bit of golden advice to would-be professionals... 'believe in yourself'.
"You have to believe in yourself," he said after netting against Dartford in a 5-0 friendly victory. "I love it here at Gillingham. I've come from part-time football, just Tuesdays and Thursdays, to training everyday and I feel like that is what I needed. I've been working towards being a full-time footballer my whole life, so it's good to finally be here. I'm enjoying it and I'm up to speed.
"I feel like this is the fittest I have been, I'm feeling good and ready to go.
"Stats talk, so I need to score and assist as many as I can and help the team. I'm confident of getting into the starting 11, I believe in myself. I just need to be patient and be ready to take a chance.
"It was a good team showing against Dover, and it was a different game to the last two we had with Millwall and Charlton. We had more of the ball and put in a good performance.
"It was nice to score for the team. Even in pre-season when you are not scoring you do think about it. Once you get the first it gives you that bit of confidence, so hopefully more will come."
