Neil Harris says he is very pleased with the condition of his players following their return to pre-season testing.
Neil Harris says that he is delighted to be around fit, hungry and happy athletes after his players returned to ME7 for pre-season training.
Welcoming his lads back this week, he was quick to test out his players in the gym ahead of the 23/24 season, and, speaking exclusively to the club website, he says that he likes what he has seen so far.
“We have definitely carried the excitement over from last year,” said the Gillingham manager. “Everyone has come back fit and healthy, which is important. There is spirit in the group and smiles are on faces.
“It’s been a really good couple of days and fitness-wise it’s the best I have ever seen. The lads have followed the off-season programme rigidly. They have come back in great shape.”
Gills recently released their full pre-season fixture list and amongst the games is one match that immediately jumps off the page, an exciting away trip to play Italian Serie B side, Como 1907.
Supporters will be heading to the stunning location to witness their team take on a European side, and Harris admits that he cannot wait.
“It’s going to be very hot and sun cream is going to have to be the most important things on the list for the players,” he said. “In training the players are going to be on the grass for 75 minutes, working hard. There will be gym-based stuff as well and also walking, there will be opportunities for walks in a beautiful place like Como.
“There is a lot to be fitted in. There will be some intense work and some intense heat and a lot of learning and bonding.
“We are there to have a brilliant environment to train in, to get to know each other better and to play against a top-quality opposition in Como.”
