Conor Masterson says he is raring to go having joined the Gills on a permanent basis over the summer.
Weights, bikes, hurdles, cones and of course plenty of sweat, it can only mean one thing: gruelling pre-season training.
It feels like just yesterday that the Gills’ 2022-23 campaign came to an end, but the players are already being put through their paces ahead of a new season where the giant hopefully awakes, and it all starts in the gym.
Taking a breather from another brutal workout, Conor Masterson spoke exclusively with the club website and said that Gillingham are putting in the hard yards now in an effort to come racing out of the blocks on August 5th at 3pm.
“It’s been tough,” admitted the defender. “But seeing the boys, the Gaffer and the staff is great and I am loving it already. The pre-season is definitely the worst part of the season but it’s the most important. We need to be ready for the long season ahead.
“You need to get these early days in, it’s important for your body. You need that fitness to set you up for the season.
“I’m happy with my fitness and I have come back strong; my times were good in the fitness test and I am raring to go.
“I came back here on loan last year and I absolutely loved it and we won a lot of games. The team is really strong now and we have brought in a few new players as well.
“As soon as I walked in the building there were smiley happy faces, everyone is buzzing for the new season.
“It’s great to be back and I feel it’s going to be a brilliant season for the Gills. We are a good team and we are confident in ourselves. We are preparing well and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
