Bailey Akehurst signs for Hastings

Left-back agrees permanent move to Hastings United.

Bailey Akehurst has completed a permanent move to Hastings United ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 19-year-old left-back, who came through the academy at Priestfield, was released at the end of the season but has now agreed a return to Hastings, having spent time on loan at the club in 2022.

Akehurst, who has also had spells with Tonbridge and Cray Wanderers, made his professional debut for the Gills in August 2021 in an EFL Cup tie away at Crawley but made his first league appearance at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday three months later in a 1-1 draw.

He went on to make a further 10 appearances in all competitions, making his last outing in the 3-2 home win against Brighton U21 in the Papa John's Trophy in October 2022.

Everyone at Gillingham FC would like to thank Bailey for his services during his time at Priestfield and we wish him well for the future.
