Glenn Morris previews the game at Harrogate.
Gillingham keeper Glenn Morris says the key ingredient for staying up is beating the teams around you.
This weekend’s opponents Harrogate Town sit two points and one place behind the Gills and Morris says it is imperative to go into the match aiming to extract the full three points.
“When you play teams around you, you want to keep them at arms length,” said Morris ahead of Saturday's game at the EnviroVent Stadium. “Three points against Harrogate is going to be massive, looking at the table, it is very important.
“We will look at Harrogate and have a plan of what we are going to do. It will be tough but these are the type of games you enjoy playing in. It will be a case of doing what we are doing, working hard and being on the front foot. We will play our game and hopefully come away with three points.
“There is a big belief in the squad and we have a few boys coming back from injury. We will have a stronger squad and we will look to build on our good run. We need to pull ourselves away from the bottom and give ourselves some breathing space. We want to keep moving up that table.
“They are at home, conditions will not be the best, so it will be a tough game. If we come out as the winning side then that is all that matters.”
Seats in the away stand were quickly snapped up by Gillingham fans who will once again be showing their tremendous backing and it isn’t gone unnoticed by the players.
“Our supporters are amazing,” said Morris. “They travel in numbers and Harrogate is not just around the corner. If they are going to travel that far then we as players have to match what they are doing. We need to put in everything we can to make sure they have an enjoyable trip.
“The boys are in good spirits. We know we can bounce back from the Bradford result on Tuesday. As of late, we have been on the right side of a win and I back us to go and do that up there.”
