Harris | "I want to finish as high as possible"

The Gills boss says he is keen to finish the season in style by putting in a strong performance against play-off chasing Salford City.

Neil Harris has made it clear that the season hasn't finished quite yet for Gillingham and with 90 minutes of the campaign still left to play he is demanding that his team finish on a high.

Gillingham's opponents Salford need a mere point to ensure they secure their place in the play-offs. Harris, however, wants his men to continue giving everything right up to when the referee blows the final whistle of the last game to bring down the curtain on one of the most eventful seasons in Gillingham's history.

"Salford want a play-off place, so they will be at it," warned Harris ahead of the clash. "My players will have to be at it as well.

"I am very competitive and my message to the players is we have to do it for ourselves, we do it for personal pride and we do it for the supporters who travel. It's their jobs and they get paid to perform to the best of their ability in any given training session or game and that goes for Monday against Salford.

"Where you finish in the league table is where you deserve to finish. If we finish 15th then we deserve to be there, if we finish 20th then so be it. I want to finish as high as possible.

"It is the 46th game in the calendar and it's the last one and we want to go out in a bang, we have earned the right to go out in a bang. We want to show the league that next year we want to fight with these teams at the top of the division.

"I don't know how I will feel at full time, ask me then because I will have a better answer after the heat of the battle.

"There have been highs and lows of the season, or I should say lows and highs. First half of the season was a disaster but the second half has been phenomenal and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

"We will be re-energized for next year, we have a huge season in front of us and I cannot wait for it. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation for what is to come."
