Jake Turner has praised the entire team for the clean sheets that have been achieved to date.
If the season continues as it has started then Jake Turner might want to consider opening up his own laundrette, because clean sheets are becoming his speciality.
The stopper has enjoyed an incredible five shut-outs out of eight and also boasts the best saves percentage in the division. Turner, however, remains humble and is very happy to share the praise with his teammates.
“You don’t score many goals as a goalkeeper, so a clean sheet is the main thing,” said the goalie ahead of this weekend’s away fixture with Doncaster. “I am the last line of defence and stopping the ball going into the net is my job, but it’s really a team effort.
“The clean sheets are a credit to the whole team. We have got it in our heads from the Gaffer that we keep our opponent’s score at 0 for as long as possible. We try and keep a clean sheet because that is the best way of trying to win the game.
“We work on keeping clean sheets as a team. The whole team keeps a clean sheet, it’s not just me. We defend solidly. We all enjoy the rewards of a clean sheet.
“The manager talks about a clean-sheet mentality every day, that and the first-goal mentality. They are the two main phrases. If we do them both then we win the game, so the more times we do it the better.
“We are all in a good place and looking forward to the Doncaster game. We have worked hard all week and we are ready for it. Our aim is to keep a clean sheet and to win the game.”
