In a game of few chances, Clemence was happy that his side restricted the league's top scorers to a couple of chances. However, the Gills boss recognised that his side lacked that attacking threat in the final third.
Jake Turner kept his 12th clean sheet of the season in the fixture, and Clemence was pleased with what he saw from the goalkeeper, who put his body on the line to ensure the game remained goalless.
The Gillingham Head Coach also provided an update regarding on-loan Watford striker Jorge Hurtado.
Assessment of the fixture...
It was a very difficult game. They are the top scorers in the division, so we knew that we were going to have to be spot-on defensively today. They tested us at times, but I don't think they threatened us too much. They had one or two shots. I know they hit the post with a wide free-kick, which was probably a cross.
Defensively, we were sound, and the boys had to work hard for their clean sheet against very good footballers in this division. I am very proud of the boy's efforts.
We didn't create enough ourselves, but I thought we were much better in the second half than the first. We take the point, and we move on.
Utilising the long throw...
The long throw is a bit of a weapon for us. We would be foolish not to use it, so we are going to try and make the most of that. It's not something that I am used to working with in the past, but I am trying to find a way to win football matches with the group of players that we have here at the Football Club. I think that is a weapon that we have to keep on using.
On Jake Turner...
I thought he came and took some crosses when he was under pressure. Obviously, he had taken a big whack to the hip when he has come to take one, and there was a doubt that he might have to come off at one stage. He wanted to stay on, and he has kept a clean sheet, which he will be pleased with tonight.
He has had a number of clean sheets this season, so fair play to him.
Update on Jorge Hurtado...
I think Jorge will need some surgery. That is my understanding. Whether he has it in the coming weeks or at the end of the season - we are waiting to find out. The decision will be with the player from my understanding. It is not a bad cartilage tear, so sometimes players can play with that. It is whether how badly it flairs up.
We played on the Tuesday, had the day off on the Wednesday and trained on the Thursday. I could tell that he wasn't himself on the Thursday, and he wasn't moving as freely as he had been. I kept asking if he was okay, and he was telling me he was okay.
I knew he wasn't, and the rest of the staff did too. We got him back and got the translator, and he said that he had a small problem with his knee. He had probably been feeling it for a couple of days. We looked at the knee, and it was quite swollen.
When the knee keeps swelling like that, you need to be careful. We are in the hands of other people. It is probably on what Jorge wants to do, and what Watford wants to do. I am sure that by Thursday's press conference, I will have more information for you.
