Centre-back concedes performance at Walsall was below the required level.
After scoring the equalising goal to rescue a point for his team in what finished a 1-1 draw at Priestfield, Conor Masterson reflected on the performance of the squad, and the disappointment felt in not taking all three points at home to Walsall.
On the game overall:
“I don’t think we were anywhere near good enough in that first half, we didn’t reach our level and were probably lucky to come in level at the break to be honest.
“In the second half, we were much, much more ourselves.
Okay, we went a goal behind, but we showed great character to come back from it.
“We had several big chances in the second half, and we missed them, so obviously we’re disappointed not to get all three points but it’s still a point. We’re still only one point off the Play-Offs.
“We have to keep moving forward and keep working hard. We’ve got a big game at Notts County next week, if we can beat them, you never know.
“All of us want to win. The players, the staff, we want to make the fans proud.”
On scoring the equalising goal:
“I just found myself between the posts.
I’m trying to do that if I’m honest, I’m trying to think about where I am in the box, around the area where I think it’s going to fall, and it has recently.
“I just smashed it if I’m honest.
"I saw it fall and just said to myself “I’m walloping this”…and that’s what I did.
“It’s a great feeling to score in front of our fans, but listen it’s disappointing that we couldn’t give the fans all three points.”
