Walker | "I want to get back doing what I do best"

Club's new striker is keen to get going after signing on loan for the rest of the season from Burton Albion.

Gillingham's latest recruit Josh Walker says he is "hoping to help the club get back to where it belongs' after signing a loan contract at ME7.

The pacey striker, 26, who has a reputation of taking on defenders, is determined to shine at Priestfield as he aims to showcase exactly what he is capable of.

"I am delighted to be here," said Walker, speaking exclusively to the club website. "I heard about the interest a few days ago and it was a no-brainer. The location was a big factor, the club is about an hour away from where I grew up. I've played here before and there was a really good atmosphere.

"I have had quite an interesting journey, to be fair. I signed for Tottenham when I was ten and when I was 15 I got released and signed for Fulham, where I stayed until I was 19. I had a loan whilst I was at Fulham to Wealdstone.

"Stepping out of Fulham was hard, because I hadn't played much men's football. I moved to Hendon, where I did well for a season. I then got a move to Barnet in the National League and done well there, I spent three years there. I needed a bit of a change and went to Dagenham and did well there over 18 months and then got a move to Burton. Since I have been there it has been a bit frustrating, it hasn't gone how I wanted it to go.

"I am here now and I am ready to go and getting back to what I do best, which is scoring goals.

"I have been compared to Jermain Defoe, I am that type of striker. I like to play off the shoulder and can finish with both feet. I am quick and I can dribble.

"I'm hoping the paperwork gets through before the weekend when we play MK Dons and I can get on and score a goal. I'm focused on the next game, I want to get my head down and am looking to get five to ten goals, and hopefully we can push into those play-off places."
