Gills manager Mark Bonner admitted that his side didn't offer enough of a threat during their 1-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
Billy Sharp scored the only goal of the game just after Gills had found their footing.
Bradley Dack, who was named among the substitutes for the game, was pulled out of the team in the final moments, and the Gills boss gave his explanation for that late decision.
Bonner also provided an update on a few of the other players who missed the game at the Eco-Power Stadium, in addition to his reflection on the overall display.
Thoughts on the game...
We huffed and puffed and chased the game as best as we could. We put a lot of players on the pitch to try and help us, probably too many in the end, but we didn't have enough of a threat in the game. We had a lot of the ball in periods and got some control of it, but their transitions to attack are outstanding.
We didn't play with enough personality at times in the first-half. The goal we gave them was soft, and we were too soft in moments without the ball at times.
The game was fairly balanced in certain areas, but they created more than us and certainly deserved to win the game. We haven't done enough to win it or to score in the game at the end.
We had a couple of threatening moments from set plays, but there was little else.
There was loads of endeavour to try and to try and get something, but there were moments in the game when their play was above ours.
Dealing with shifts in momentum...
We took 20 minutes to get some control of the game. We got a bit, and then we turned the ball over really easy in their half on the far side. Then they are counter-attacking, and Glenn [Morris] makes a good one-on-one save, and the momentum lifts in the stadium.
It swings to them, and two minutes later, they're scoring because we don't defend the back post properly.
We have to manage those moments better and get control of games and have the personality and the quality to do that. That was lacking at times today, for sure.
Changing the in game strategy...
We made it chaotic in the end because we weren't getting to the end of the pitch or creating chances in a controlled fashion. Therefore, we went with a strategy with a little bit more chaos to try and cause them loads of issues and to not allow them to get control of the game themselves, then hope we can create a moment in that.
We didn't do enough of that. We had lots of opportunities in the top third of the pitch, and we had quite a lot of the ball. We had moments to serve the box and had set plays, but we couldn't find enough quality to test the goalkeeper and work chances. There's certainly work for us to do with that.
Update on Bradley Dack...
We travelled with a bigger squad because of Tuesday, really...a lot of the boys haven't done so much since Tuesday that did play, so we gave them as long as possible today. Hence why Joe [Gbode] was out warming up. He [Bradley Dack, hamstring] just couldn't shake that off, so it was better to give it a bit longer.
Update on the other absentees from the squad...
Robbie [McKenzie] has had a little bit of an issue with his quad off the back of last week. Obviously, that happens the week that Max Ehmer is suspended and Euan Williams is away, so the timing of things you cannot choose. You just have to get on with it.
We certainly should have Max and Euan back, and whether we have any others back, I'm not sure yet.
