Mark Bonner says his team are determined to end the run of form they are currently on as Gillingham prepare to lock horns with Swindon Town at the County Ground on Saturday.
Following five successive defeats, Gills have slipped to 11th in the table and the manager says the team needs a spark.
He said: “I have said a number of times how quickly it can change in this league. In that run of five games we should be taking points from some of them. Our biggest frustration is that we have found ways of taking no points from a number of games we have lost.
“We need a spark from somewhere.
“The beauty of quick turnarounds and busy periods when you are in a run like we are, is that the next game comes really fast which is important because you don’t spend too long thinking about the last one – you have to shift your focus really quickly to the next one.
“We want to put the run of results that we find ourselves on to bed as quickly as possible. Long runs, good or bad, don’t last forever.”
Gills will be backed by over 1100 supporters at the weekend and the entire team is committed to putting in a good display against a Swindon side who appointed Ian Holloway as their new manager on Friday afternoon. Mark Bonner outlined what type of game he is expecting.
He said: “There are lots of different ways they can play, they’ve had some up and down results but our big focus is on making sure we are at a really good level and put ourselves into a position to win the game, most importantly to end the run of results we are on.
“Really importantly to give the supporters who are travelling in such big numbers, to give them a good day out because not only do they deserve it, they are also desperate for it as much as we are.”
As for who is available at the weekend, the manager confirmed that Max Clark will not travel due to suspension.
He added: “Max Clark will be suspended, that’s his fifth yellow on Tuesday. Lappo [George Lapslie] and Joe Gbode had a bit of an issue during the game. Joe hopped over someone and hobbled through the later stages, he has been back on the grass today and he seems to be over that hopefully.
“Armani has been out on the grass working a little bit. He is the only one that might, I think [return]. Whenever he is back it will be a real boost to us, whether it is this weekend or not, it might be too soon.
"He is certainly the type of player that you want. He gets around the pitch really well, gives you a huge energy and plays with the personality that you need and when you are having tough times you need people with that grit and resilience and he has that in abundance.
“The qualities that he has, others have got to show because the team needs it.”
