Club visits Medway Maritime Hospital for annual Christmas trip

Gillingham Football Club made its annual festive visit to the children’s ward at Medway Maritime Hospital earlier in the week.

Manager Mark Bonner, Goalkeeping Coach Deren Ibrahim and a number of first-team players were in attendance to visit the children and their families, some of which had undergone recent surgery.

The club took a number of gifts for the patients and our magical mascots, Tommy and Tammy, certainly helped spread some festive cheer as the holiday season approaches.

The group spent nearly an hour-and-a-half speaking to families, having photographs taken with the children and chatting to staff before departing.

Managing Director, Joe Comper said: “Visiting the local children’s ward at Medway Maritime Hospital is something the club has done for many years now and it is a visit we always look forward to.

“The players and staff were only too happy to take some gifts and spread some festive cheer to the children and their families, some of whom have gone through a difficult period in the build up to Christmas.

“The visit was very well organised and I thank the staff and mascots for making this very important annual trip.”

Amanda Russell, Head of Nursing for Children’s and Young People Services at Medway Maritime Hospital, said: “A huge thank you to the Gillingham Football Club players, and the coaches and club’s mascots for visiting our children’s wards and helping to spread some festive cheer.

“The visit certainly helped to put some smiles on the faces of our young patients, as well as their families and our staff, which was just lovely to see.”
