Coleman | "I am really disappointed for the players"

Coleman Grimsby

Gillingham manager John Coleman was devastated after his side conceded in the final seconds at Grimsby Town, costing the visiting Gills all three points.

A Doug Tharme own goal in the first-half gave the Gills the lead after he sliced a clearance into the back of his own net. However, with just seconds on the clock, Danny Rose fired the hosts back on level terms.

Coleman was pleased with what he believed to be a much-improved performance after the draw at Tranmere Rovers in the previous fixture. Despite this, he was left lamenting a late substitution.

Joe Gbode and Sam Gale were named in the starting XI, and Coleman was very pleased with both of their performances. The Gills boss also gave an injury update on a few players.

Thoughts on the game...

I thought that we played ever so well, particularly in the second-half. The conditions were very difficult. We absolutely dominated the second-half. We hit the woodwork twice, well, they hit it for us once, and I don't know how Tim's [Dieng] header stayed out if I am honest. I can't fault the work rate of the players. You've seen how much they have given and how much they are hurting.

It's another away game where we haven't been beaten, but we have still got to make more chances, and they were there for the taking in the second-half, and we didn't take it.

I just want us to give everything that we have. Our fans deserve that. They came in their numbers again tonight and were fantastic. I'm just so disappointed in myself, and I am really disappointed for the players because of the effort that they have put in, and they haven't been rewarded for a game that we should have won.

It will take me days to get over that.

Learning from mistakes...

If you don't recognise your mistakes, you won't ever learn. I'm not that big-headed that I won't recognise when I have made a mistake, and I have made a mistake tonight. For all of your experience, when you're trying to see out a win, sometimes you make the wrong calls, and I did today.

It's a call that I had to make, and I made the wrong one. Over the years as a manager, I have made more right ones than wrong ones, but it doesn't make it hurt any less.

Individual performances...

[On Sam Gale] - I thought that he was excellent tonight. I thought that our whole back four were excellent tonight, and we stood up and were counted.

[On Joe Gbode] - He worked himself into the ground. The two young lads, I couldn't fault them.

I thought that Shad [Ogie] was absolutely outstanding tonight. You can see why he has had the plaudits that he has had.

Injury update...

Elliott Nevitt is injured, so is Jimmy Morgan. Ethan Coleman has a calf injury.

Looking ahead to Notts County...

We've had two long trips and we have got to get the lads rested up, and get them in the right condition for Saturday.
