Gillingham manager John Coleman spoke to the media following the 0-0 draw against Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Saturday.
Coleman spoke of the spirit that he saw in his side during the game and was full of praise for the fantastic support his team were shown, with 402 fans making the long trip to Cumbria.
Fleetwood Town are up next for Gillingham, visiting the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Tuesday evening. Coleman is desperate to get that long-awaited victory for the supporters.
The performance and the spirit of the camp...
You can see the spirit in the camp with the lads. Dacky [Bradley Dack] is throwing his body in front of shots in the 93rd minute. That tells you everything that you need to know. We will keep on working, and our luck has to change soon.
The game could have finished 3-3. We're going a bit gung-ho trying to win it, and gaps are getting left open left, right and centre, but in the main, we have tightened up, and that's two clean sheets. They have tightened up, and the lads are working hard. You can see that even the subs are rallying around each other.
We played some really good football against the wind in the first half and then didn't get the wind in the second half. That changed the dynamics of the game. They came into it more in the last 15 minutes. I wouldn't say that we were hanging on because we were still asking questions of them. The ball bounced around their box lots of times.
It's a massive improvement from the Barrow game. We come away from home against a team who are fighting for their lives, and in those situations where we are desperate to win ourselves, but it's very important that you don't get beat and you don't let them gain any ground on you.
The travelling support...
I must say again, our travelling fans, to come in those numbers is so admirable. They're fantastic people, and I cannot thank them enough. Their support was very much appreciated by the staff and the players, and we are desperate to get that win for them.
The two big decisions in the game...
[On Elliott Nevitt's shot off the crossbar in the first half] - I've seen a replay of it, and it looks as though it has gone over the line, but you're clutching at straws if you're asking the linesman to get that, in my opinion, I'd be mortified if that was given against me. That's just the luck of the draw.
[The Elliott Nevitt penalty decision] - It's not a dive. You'll see it again, and it's definitely a foul, but that's football for you. Sometimes you get the decisions, and sometimes you don't. There's no point bleating about it and saying that's the reason why we haven't won. We will keep going and keep making chances, and we will focus on what we can control. We can't control what the referees do.
I've spoken since I've been at Gillingham about how difficult it is to be a referee. How hard it is to make split-second decisions.
Looking ahead to Tuesday...
We've got a quick turnaround to Tuesday against Fleetwood. We have got to get ourselves rested up, get home as quickly as we can, and prepare now for Tuesday.
The fans have been brilliant, and I hope that the fans get behind us again like they did last Saturday. More than anything for them, I want to deliver that win. I want the players to deliver the win.
