Gillingham have clinched their second signing of the January transfer window with the capture of Nelson Khumbeni from Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old arrives at MEMS Priestfield Stadium having featured 24 times for Accrington Stanley earlier in the campaign, scoring once. He has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
The midfielder came through the academy at Norwich City, making his professional debut in September 2019 in an EFL Trophy tie away at Oxford United. He signed for Bolton in August of 2022, scoring against Manchester United in the same competition in an 8-1 victory in September 2023.
Later that season Nelson had two loan spells away from Bolton, the first with AFC Fylde before finishing the campaign with Morecambe, playing against the Gills in March 2024, who won 3-2 at the Mazuma Stadium on the day.
On signing his contract, Nelson said: "I am delighted, I am very excited and cannot wait to get started.
"Whenever my chance comes I've got to be ready; I haven't been here for other clubs but I have friends who have said nothing but good things about it in terms of facilities you can utilise to get better.
"Every day is a learning day, I will give my all."
Nelson has been allocated squad number 44. He is not eligible for selection against Doncaster Rovers. A full interview with the player will be available shortly.
