Hutton | "We dug in"

Hutton

Remeao Hutton scored his first Gillingham goal as they came from 2-1 down to draw 2-2 with Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium.

Gills took the lead through Elliott Nevitt after 90 seconds before Salford turned the game on its head with two goals in seven minutes. Hutton levelled the game on 24 minutes with a fine left-footed strike that found the top corner. The right-back discussed what was only the second EFL goal of his career.

The 26-year-old also discussed the game and the early days of working with new manager Gareth Ainsworth.

Discussing the game...

I thought that it was a different game to Tuesday, but we dug in and came from behind and we scored two great goals!

I think that we're better as a footballing team. We have got the players to keep the ball on the floor and pass, but with Hawks [Oli Hawkins] in the team we can mix it up and go long as well. You have got Nev [Elliott Nevitt] and Joe [Gbode], who can run off him and then find Jayden [Clarke] in the pocket. I think that we can mix it up and play both ways, but we dug in and played a bit more of a physical game.

We know that they're a good team and have some good players as well. We knew that coming into the game. Obviously, we need all the points that we can get at the moment to try and make that gap bigger for safety. We take the draw and move on to Tuesday.

His goal...

This is the only place that I have scored! I have only scored two goals, but the gaffer wanted us to get a bit higher- me and Max [Clark]. When the left centre-back got it, I thought to myself to just jump and cut off the line, and he played it to me, and I thought to take him on go inside and shoot. Normally I would have tried to cross it, but the gaffer said to me that he wants me to get more goals.

[On whether he wanted it on his weaker foot] - Probably on my left foot! I don't like shooting at all. I prefer crossing, but I have done it today and it has paid off.

I did look to see if anyone was around, and I thought that he was expecting me to go to the line, I guess, so I thought to cut in and have a shot and it paid off.

Working with Gareth Ainsworth...

We are still getting to know him. At the moment, we haven't lost under him, and he's positive. I enjoy playing for him.

He will allow us to make mistakes, and all that he wants is effort. With us bringing 400 fans today, they want to see effort as well.
